It has been determined that...

you are able to furnish proper care to an orphan as defined in Section 101(B)(1)(F) of the Immigration Nationality Act.

WE ARE LEGIT!! MY FINGERPRINTS WORKED!! We have our I171H form in hand!!

Can you all say woot??

Also, the DOS messed up one apostille so we need to fix it...and send in one signed form...and then we will be officially registered in Russia and ready to go. SO EASY.

I can't tell you how happy I am right now...but I know that one day soon I will be much happier.

Hearts in Hand

Our agency finally has the dossier in hand. They will review it soon to make sure that they have everything and we have done everything correctly. Thinking that I won't have to re-do something really isn't an option at this point. Everything we've done so far has had hurdles so I am sure this will be no different. I know that sounds pessimistic but it's my reality. I am happy that they have it and I await the next step. It has been over two months since we were fingerprinted at USCIS and still no results and no I171H form in the mail. Maybe this week we will get this form and they will tell us that the dossier looks amazing! Maybe. Eh. I'll keep ya posted. Peace out.

Planting a Garden

Today we sent in our dossier. Finally. Even though we've been on the waitlist for a little while this seems like a big step. We also sent in a bunch of other paperwork and checks (ugh). It feels good. If only we had some champagne! Clink! :) And now that we've planted this giant seed I hope that our baby garden grows faster and we receive a referral soon.

love always~thanks for checking in sweet friends, family and secret friends too.

leave a comment. make a waiting mama smile.

Anniversary

Welcome June 2nd. Today marks 1 and half years since Mr. N. and I jumped on the adoption bicycle and began our journey together. I really thought we would finish last summer. Never would I have predicted the fingerprint issues and personal hurdles that would keep us from finishing earlier. I truly believe that things happen for a reason and that we are where we are today for a purpose. Things will work out like they are supposed to and that's that. I can see the rainbow from here...and I like what I see. 2011...make us proud. We're ready.

Take the Good and the Bad

YAY!! We got the apostilles back today! SO MANY! 64 all together. Well, 63 really since they didn't do one document (that is a $20 document so they needed more money) which means another letter and blah blah blah. Geez DOS you're making us work for this one!! I should have stock in FedEx. Anyway, I am just happy to see all those blue certificates!! Here's a photo of SOME of them...they wouldn't all fit in the picture (in case you were wondering what all the hub bub was about).

Arrival

New notarized documents arrived at the DOS around 2:30 today. Please cross your fingers in hopes that they go through this time and don't send them back to us with a sad note telling us to re-do them. I might lose my mind.

Updates (kind of)

Well...we got the dossier back from the DOS a week or so ago with a stupid note about our notary's NEW stamp not being effective yet since the old one hadn't expired. They asked that we re-do with the old stamp (which, btw expired yesterday). Who would think you could renew and the new one wouldn't be in effect yet? It has an expiration date but not a start date. Another stupid hurdle. I guess it's job security for someone. At least they separated the good notary stamps from the bad. We had to re-do 60+ documents. It really wasn't such a big deal...just re-print, re-sign, re-stamp...but it was an annoyance and added time to something I had already scratched off my to do list.

On another note...the playhouse is coming along nicely! I had to put some stuff outside to dress it up. I can't wait until we get to the inside! Photos below!

A is for Agony

Ever since the dossier was mailed and we were put back on the waitlist I have been in agony. AGONY. A-G-O-N-Y. I don't know you yet, but I miss you. I feel like my life is one big waitlist. Waiting for the CIS form, waiting for the dossier to come back, waiting for a referral. WAIT WAIT WAIT. We started the process almost a year and a half ago. Looking back at old blogs it's amazing to see how hopeful I was last year at this time...never anticipating the hiccups that would come along. I know that things happen for a reason and that the time wasn't right, maybe our little one wasn't born yet. This I know to be true...but the wait wait wait doesn't get any easier.

I love you. I want you to come home. I want to hold you in my arms.

Dedushka and Babushka are stilling working on the playhouse for the Burunduk (thank you thank you thank you) and it's coming along nicely. Please find attached some much belated and requested photos! I have no idea how to get these to line up...but you get the idea. The latest one has the white porch. With two dogs...we don't have a lot of grass over here! ~mama

Proof Positive

The documents have been sent out for review to make sure that we have done them correctly and that the notary is appropriate. We had planned on sending it the Friday before but the Sheriff's Office didn't like the wording of our letter so we had to re-do and it was another week before we could make it back to the office for them to do the background check and notary. This was the final document for the packet next to the I171 form that still hasn't come back. We knew this would take awhile. Once the agency is happy with the docs we have done and we have received the I171 it will all be mailed out for apostille. It would be nice to have the I171 in hand now so we wouldn't have to wait on it when the rest of the docs come back. I will continue to run to the mailbox everyday.

The playhouse was put on hold last week due to family visiting, but it will be back in full effect next week...hopefully will have a roof and some paint before Friday!!

Garden Gnomes and Other Updates

Hi,

I haven't updated in a little while. I was waiting for some kind of BIG news, but several people have asked me what's going on so I thought I should quit ignoring the blog (which reminds me, please feel free to comment every once in awhile so I know you're out there!!). Anyway, I was told that if my prints DIDN'T work I would hear something in two weeks. It has been THREE weeks and two days and I have heard nothing. I'm not doing the happy dance yet, but I do hope that it means the news is good. The Mister did his prints a few weeks ago without a hitch...so I'm confident that his will be fine. In the meantime we decided to go ahead and have the docs notarized (thanks J, I love you, you're the best!). Friday we are getting the police letters. Then we send the whole packet for the agency to review...make sure I've done it right and dotted all the stuff that needs dotting and crossed whatever needed to be crossed. After they look it over they will send it back to me to send to the Department of State for apostille. That should happen quick. Then we'll send back to the agency with a big fat check (hint- donations welcome :)) and the wait will begin. The wait we've been waiting for. I periodically get nervous thinking about it. I thought about it in the shower and my belly was doing flip-flops...in a good way though.

Playhouse is coming along nicely thanks to the Babushka and Dedushka that have been working so so hard on it. I will send pictures soon. I bought some awesome fabric with little garden gnomes on it for curtains. :)

That about sums it up. I hope I answered all the questions you have so far!!

love,

It's Spring Around Here

Hi,

I just wanted to publish a few spring pics that I've taken in the past few weeks.

Enjoy!!

~ Mama

7 outta 10.

Things went pretty smoothly with my prints yesterday (despite being sick for 4 days). I rented a car and headed to Jax with mom by my side for support. The folks at the office were very nice and things moved quickly. I envisioned a room so crowded that it would take hours, but in reality I was in and out in 20 minutes or less. Naturally, as a person who has worn ridges things didn't go perrrrrfectly with the printing. I just don't have em'...not much I can do about that. I don't know how many "good" prints one must have to be acceptable (do you have to have all 10...how about 7?)...so now I just wait and see what happens. I might be waiting for a couple of months. Meanwhile, the Mister still has to get his done once he has his invite. There's plenty to do to keep busy. The in-laws are kindly building a playhouse for the little burunduk, however our bleak week of weather has put a stop to it for awhile. I will send some progress photos soon! I ordered some fabric from Etsy for the curtains and I am excited about the fabric coming in :)

The World is Our Fortune Cookie

I’m not sure where to begin. It has been too long. Here we go. So…the Mister and I went in for new fingerprints in November and had been patiently waiting to hear back from our beloved government in regards to the fingerprint status for what seemed an eternity (doesn’t everything seem like an eternity when you are waiting for something big?)

On February 7th after deciding to email them myself, this was the reply:

Good Afternoon Mama (funny that they called me mama),

I am sorry to inform that your fourth request (excuse me but there were THREE cards in there so this is my 6th request) was also rejected. You will have to send in a new application form, $18 fee and fingerprint cards. You may send in up to 5 sets of prints and we will take the best one. Gary is aware of the situation, and asks that you send in your new request with a tracking number, such as through Fed Ex or UPS. When you mail in your new request and get your tracking number, please let us know and we will try to expedite your process. It can still take up to 12 weeks to process, but we will try. Thank you!

Kim

This meant that set SIX had been rejected. There was no way I was going to do this again. If my prints were going to work, they would have worked using one of the three methods I had tried.

I sent a message to my agency and my home study agency telling them that the prints were rejected AGAIN. Come to find out, my contact at the home study office was no longer there, and we had to work with someone else. Ugh. Well, luckily this person called around and managed to find a way to get UCIS to take the home study without prints. There are regions in Russia that do not require prints, and we will now be working with those regions.

Next steps…we had to update the home study. As of February 22nd our home study is officially complete!! We had to get more documents for the dossier as much of what we had completed has changed since March. Many of these documents require passport numbers and there must be a year and a half left before expiring. We have to update our passports as they expire in February 2012. Once we get the passport numbers we can update the documents. We should have the passports in 2 weeks or so as we put a rush on them. We had to mail in our I-600A. This is called the Application for Advance Processing of Orphan Petition. We just received notification that it was received and we should expect our invitation for fingerprinting from UCIS soon, but it might take 6 weeks or so (or so I have heard). It’s the government so it could take forever. Before you ask, yes, I cringe at the thought of being fingerprinted again. BUT…the good news is that this process is biometric so it should be faster AND if it doesn’t work I will try again, and if that doesn’t work…well…I have been told they only try TWICE and then accept letters from local agencies. I’m not sure how that works and frankly I hope that some good karma is on my side and that it works like a charm the first time!! Once the fingerprints work we will receive the I-171H. This is called Notice of Favorable Determination Concerning Application for Advanced Processing of Orphan Petition. All I can say about that is whoopee! At that point our dossier should be complete and we’ll have it notarized by the best sister in the world and then apostilled. We will cut some enormous checks and do a few other things and then wait for some referrals (otherwise known as sweet little babies that need loving homes). Until then, we wait for some good written news :)

So that’s my update! Looks like spring has sprung! I hope everything continues to run as smoothly as it has for the last month or so. Please think good thoughts for us.

~Mama

P.S.- Thank you for your kind thoughts and words! Please check in and leave a comment. It makes me feel like I'm not talking to myself.

Pep Talk

YOU CAN DO THIS!
When the days are long and you're waiting to hear from the agency...
YOU CAN DO THIS!
When time feels like it is at a standstill...
YOU CAN DO THIS!
When you feel like you might turn into a puddle of tears...
YOU CAN DO THIS!
When you feel like everything is working against you...
YOU CAN DO THIS!
When you wonder when?, if?, how?, or who?...
YOU CAN DO THIS!
When it all feels like a dream...
YOU CAN DO THIS!

And when it's all done...you might even forget you had to have this pep talk to make it all happen.

Soon...

Springtime Means Starting Anew

I'm not gonna lie. I miss the winter holidays already and I have since December 26th. I miss the Christmas tree and the lights and the smell of cinnamon. We are caught between the happy holidays and the freshness of spring. Limbo Land. I'm not sure how to spruce the place up for January/February. I need something to inspire me. I'm ready to start anew (and start counting the days until next Halloween) :)
